Trip to Kernavė and Trakai – Two Ancient Capitals of Lithuania (Duration: 7 h)

We are offering you to discover the Lithuanian Troy – Kernavė – a place that represents the primeval past of Lithuania. On the picturesque bank of the Neris River stand five hill - forts where our ancestors have settled, lived and been buried since time immemorial. Numerous archeological finds testify to the historical processes and cultures which have existed in the area for 11 000 years. The cultural heritage of the last pagan country in Europe – the remains of ancient capital of Lithuania – lies hidden under a layer of deposits. Since 2004, Kernavė has been included to the UNESCO World Heritage List. 

We will continue our trip to the second ancient capital of Lithuania – Trakai which lies in the National and Historical park of Lithuania, famous for its unique landscape enriched with some 200 lakes and the medieval castle on the Island of Galvė Lake. It is only one like that in Eastern Europe. You will have a chance to admire an amazing combination of landscape and medieval architecture during a pleasant boat sail on Galvė Lake. The traditional dishes as well as special drinks of the Karaite ethnic minority cuisine will be served on the boat.

Trip to Biržai – the Land of Beer   (Duration: 9 h)                              

Vilnius – Biržai. On the way to Biržai we will stop at Paįstris Airport where a collection of old jets is on exhibit; it is also the airport where the training flights of the world champion of acrobatic flying Jurgis Kairys took place. Upon our arrival to Biržai we will visit the Biržai castle – the main Lithuanian stronghold against the Swedish attacks at the 16th century. The recently restored castle houses the museum now. We will continue our trip to Rinkuškiai Beer Brewery and participate in a beer tasting program where 8 different kinds of beer will be served with special snacks and ribs as a main course. For centuries the area of Biržai was known for its breweries which keep secrets of ancient Lithuanian beer brewing recipes.  After lunch a match of “Mondeball” a unique game invented and patented by people from Biržai will await your participation. The visit to Karaimiškis village – the only region in Lithuania where sinkholes appear will conclude our trip.

Trip to Kaunas and Lithuanian Ethnographical Museum in Rumšiškės (Duration: 9 h)

Vilnius – Kaunas. Join us on the trip to Kaunas – the only Hansa town in the country where the oldest stone castle in Lithuania first mentioned in written records in 1361 is located at the confluence of the Nemumas and the Neris rivers; and become acquainted with its charming streets of the Old Town, take a stroll along one of the longest pedestrian avenues in Europe – Laisvės alėja, visit a unique museum of Devils and enjoy the breathtaking view from green hills. Later we will continue our trip to Rumšiškės where the Ethnographical Open Air Museum is located in an area of 195 hectares and embrace the experience of the late XIXth – early XXth century life style by getting to know some of the local craftsmen, seeing their work, visiting a teashop. A small clay jug as a gift to take home will be given to everyone.

Trip to the National Park of Curonian Spit – a UNESCO World Heritage Site (Duration: 2 days) 

Day 1. Vilnius – Klaipėda. We will be heading to Klaipėda via road along the Nemunas River which offers you a view to a picturesque countryside of Lithuania enriched with ancient hill-forts and historical castles. The formation of Klaipėda city and its medieval castle is related with the interests of the Livonian Order thus the traces of economic activity and architectural monuments of the German Order as well as their expertise in building fortifications can still be found in old town of Klaipėda.  A sightseeing tour of Klaipėda and a visit to the 13th century castle upon our arrival to Klaipėda will help you to discover its history and secrets. Dinner in a nice restaurant will conclude the day.

Day 2. The city of Klaipėda is also a gateway to the Curonian Spit thus on the second day of the trip we will take a transfer by ferry to Neringa and visit the National Park of Curonian Spit. Since 2000, this region has been the site of UNESCO World Heritage. We will visit Nida, which is the main town of the spit and after spending a day in Nida the question why the famous German writer and Nobel Prize winner Thomas Mann had his summer house in Nida will be answered.  You will also learn about the true Lithuanian treasure known as the Baltic Gold during your visit to the Amber Gallery and will be fascinated by the breathtaking view of sand dunes, charming old houses of fishermen preserving the traditions of Neringa’s architecture. Moreover, the taste of freshly smoked fish will be never forgotten.
